GENERAL CHARACTERISTICS
An ulcer is a simple lesion, which corresponds to a traumatic process that turns into a clinically visible tissue alteration. It is a deep loss of substance involving the entire or a part of the connective tissue (fig. 1). It is differentiated from erosion, which it defined as a defect affecting only the superficial epithelium.
