GENERAL FEATURES
Geographic tongue is a benign inflammatory lesion located most of the time on the dorsal or lateral faces of the tongue, associated with a plicated tongue in 20 to 40% of the cases (Yarom et al., 2004).

Ectopic lesions can also be found on the ventral face of the tongue or more rarely on the other oral mucous membranes, particularly labial, palatal or on the buccal floor; in these cases, they are generally associated with typical lesions localized on the dorsal face of the tongue.
In most cases, the patient does not complain. A sensitivity to spices or to certain fruits can be reported, particularly in children, which may dissuade them to eat certain food. Patients sometimes complain about dry mouth, about a tingling sensation, which can be related to anxiety in the presence of lesions that might worry them.
