Replacing several lost teeth with dental implants raises the question of splinting the adjoining implants.The purpose of this article is to highlight the advantages and drawbacks of splinting implants. In a non exhaustive way, it will particularly show the indications and the advantages, while pointing out the major difficulty: making a passive prosthetic device and the various prosthetic strategies to overcome this difficulty. Beyond the biomechanical aspect, the analysis of the literature shows that implant-supported prostheses, whether or not splinted, have comparable survival rates (between 5 to 10 years). When splinting implants is required, it seems that cemented implant-supported prostheses show better results that screwed implant-supported prostheses.
