Replacing several lost teeth with dental implants raises the question of splinting the adjoining implants. The purpose of this article is to highlight the advantages and drawbacks of splinting implants. In a non exhaustive way, it will particularly show the indications and the advantages, while pointing out the major difficulty: making a passive prosthetic device and the various prosthetic strategies to overcome this difficulty. Beyond the biomechanical aspect, the analysis of the literature shows that implant-supported prostheses, whether or not splinted, have comparable survival rates (between 5 to 10 years). When splinting implants is required, it seems that cemented implant-supported prostheses show better results that screwed implant-supported prostheses.
