ORTHODONTICS AND PERIODONTICS IN THE SERVICE OF AESTHETICS
The aim of this article is to show how we can improve the aesthetic results of orthodontic treatments by associating it with a
periodontal intervention, as illustrated in two clinical cases of altered passive eruption. An initial analysis of the level of the
maxillary gingival contours will allow detecting possible anomalies. The set-up will then allow us to visualize the reduced
modification of the level of the gingival contours during the orthodontic lingual treatment and thus to plan a periodontal
intervention at the end of the treatment. In these altered passive eruption cases, after initial periodontal probing, an internal
beveled gingivectomy is performed on certain teeth in order to harmonize the level of gingival contour. After healing and
debonding of the orthodontic appliance we can appreciate the optimization of the aesthetic result in particular during the smile
of our patients.
