Although exceptional, dental transpositions can be seen in daily practice. Transposition is a phenomenon where two (usually) adjacent teeth switch position in the dental arch. Moste frequently (71 % of cases), transposition involves the canine and the first maxillary bicuspid tooth. This article studies localisation and etiologies as well as the most frequently associated anomalies (dwarf teeth, agenesis). Regarding therapeutics, the treatment of complete transposition is distinguished from that of incomplete transposition which is much easier. Lastly, possible orthodontic treatments of transposition are examined according to the periodontal context (bone thickness and nature, the notion of "predisposition").
