Although metal-ceramic crowns supported by metal intracanal posts remains widely used in Europe, numerous works have demonstrated the limits and the risks of reconstruction after endodontic treatment. The purpose of this article is to discuss the foundations of a modern treatment approach based on a minimally invasive concept and aiming at restoring the aesthetics and function of non-vital teeth. Various treatment options a direct composite restorations, composite onlays, endocrowns or all-ceramic crowns are described and illustrated through various clinical cases.
