Since its first introduction in endodontics, Thermafil® obturation system has been criticized for its lack of reproducibility and its tendency for apical extrusion. Slight modifications of the conventional method of use are necessary to obtain more predictable results. Thermafil still remains one of the best techniques for a three dimensional obturation of complex root canal systems and is particularly appropriate for long and curved root canals, as long as the detailed protocol described in this article is followed.
