The first consultation of a patient presenting signs or symptoms of TMJ disorders includes two different phases both based on elements provided by the patient before the consultation ( 'consultation request' form):
- first of all, a clinical interview dealing with the patient's personal situation, his/her general health, his/her signs and symptoms of TMJ disorders, his/her daily habits and parafunctions, the history of possible previous interventions, and in case of pain, all the parameters allowing to classify this pain,
- then a clinical examination including a muscle and joint palpation, measurement of the mandibular movements and the search for a possible gap between the centric occlusion position and the relaxed mandibular position (therapeutic position).
