Bisphosphonates are antiresorptive bonemolecules that bring significant therapeutic benefits. However, theirmajor adverse effects, osteonecrosis of the jaw, should encourage any practitioner to investigate on the intake of these drugs and recognize the inherent risks related to the way it is prescribed. It is now well documented that the chemical nature of bisphosphonate, its route of administration and its duration of prescription are important risk factors including other latestminor risks. The fact remains that the vastmajority of patients treated with bisphosphonates present little risk of such osteonecrosis and can be treated in all dental clinics.
