One-stage root planing and systemic antibiotherapy. Clinical observation at 3 months.

The aim of this study was to compare clinical results of one-stage full-mouth root planing combined with systemic antibiotherapy (group test 2) versus root planing without systemic antibiotherapy by one-stage full-mouth (group test 1) or by quadrant (group control). Forty-two patients were randomly assigned into these 3 groups. At 3 months, probing depth, clinical attachment level and bleeding on probing were significantly reduced in group test 2 as compared to the other groups. No significant difference of these clinical signs was shown between group test 1 and group control. Based on the results of this study, one-stage full-mouth therapy when associated with systemic antibiotherapy can improve clinical signs obtained with root planning in 4 visits (by quadrant).
