Periodontology : the initial consultation
The initial periodontology consultation demands a careful consideration of several aspects : the patient's reasons for consulting must be understood and defined. The patient is expecting a full diagnosis and therapeutic propositions. From this initial interview, the patient will form a first impression of the practitioner and the treatment offered which will remain for good (thrustworthiness, efficiency, hygiene of the surgery, clarity of explanations and treatment plan). The stake is therefore important and many question related to periodontical treatment are asked at that moment. A thorough past history taking and carefull listening will allow the pratitionner to determine the patient's motivation.
