The goals of restorative therapy are not only to restore the tooth form and function, but also to minimize postoperative sensitivity and preserve pulp vitality. Today, thanks to the evolution of adhesive materials and techniques, more conservative tooth preparations are possible, and adhesive restorations seal the detin-pulp complex tominimize microleakage providing appropriate conditions for the maintenance of pulp vitality.
Now, several valuable strategies can be applied to insure the protection of dentin-pulp complex. Form a biological point of view, the sucess of bioconservative therapeutics depends on different parameters. Some of theme are linked to the clinical situation, the others are directly relited to the operator's choices ( technical procedures and materials).
This paper reviews current restorative biological concepts of pulp protection,wich emphasis on a new approch based on total adhesion of restorations.
